... that left me feeling truly free and [my wife] feeling we are on a new path. Everything else in the first day and a half was building to that, and while it is a blur for me right now, I know it built up to a successful disclosure. The rebuilding process on Day 3 was very helpful. The afternoon couple's session about rebuilding intimacy had many good sections, and we talked about them much of the evening, and are really looking forward to doing them regularly.  For me, it was cleansing... purifying. It lifted a tremendous veil of dark secrecy. It was terrifying - not only in what I feared it would do to [my wife], but what it would do to my own self-image, and my ability to look [my wife] in the eyes and not see a monster reflected back. It completely changed how I see [my wife] - given the incredible strength and calmness she exhibited throughout.  We both are grateful to you for your guidance. It was clear to both of us that you had done your homework on our initial submissions and were ready for us on day 1. I know that [my wife] in her evaluation indicated that she felt your emotional involvement with us [her] allowed her to gain trust in you. I'll give you a different perspective. Through the polygraph, I felt you were a like a clinical surgeon who saw a patient with a difficult-to-remove malignant tumor and was taking me through the pre-surgery process knowing I was unwilling to do it. You were "taking me down,” like the marines do to new recruits in boot camp. It wasn't until after the successful polygraph that I saw you change and start building me back up again - softening, becoming friendly, supportive, and understanding. This is likely a difficult balancing act, and I commend you on doing it well."
